Saturday 13th May saw the return of the annual Reunion Race! A big thank you to everyone who helped to organise the event and well done to all those who ran! For the results, please click here!
The idea of an Athletics Ball has been floated for years now, but this year finally saw its realisation. On Saturday night, nearly 100 members of the Club – old and new – met to celebrate what the Club means to them. For current members, it was a chance to rub soldiers with the esteemed figures of WUAXC history; for the 30+ alumni who made the journey, it was a moment of nostalgia of reminiscence.
As part of the ball came the annual cross country awards, with the Captains’ Awards for Best XC Athletes going to President Stock (#fix) and Julia Bijl – well done! All in all, this proved to be a well-deserved celebration of a triumphant season.
No mention of the ball would be complete without a massive shout-out to the ever-brilliant Events Coordinator, Namho Cho, who has only gone and delivered another flawless event! Hopefully this is a night which becomes an annual occurrence.
Finally, thank you to Chesford Grange Hotel for hosting such a wonderful night!
Happy New Year to all our members! As the new term approaches, we thought we’d reflect on what’s been an amazing first term for the Club. Have a gander over to the newsletter for Club news, the first round of Social Sec Awards, and Captain’s Corner…
Remember, remember, the 5th of November, because this year it saw the return of the ever-popular Warwick Relays! With teams coming from across the local area, it was an action-packed day of athleticism. In the end, ‘Team Fresh’ emerged victorious, defeating the ‘Warwick Big Guns’ by 3 seconds – unfortunately for the Big Guns, retroactive name changes are not allowed.
Full results can be found here.
A massive thanks to this year’s Events Coordinator, Namho Cho, for organising such a successful event, and to the ever-brilliant Tim Nunan for providing some excellent photos.
Keep your eyes peeled for details about next year’s Relays!
The wait is finally over, the results are in, and you’re going to Warwick!
Huge congratulations to those whose hard work has finally paid off and has secured them a place at Warwick. Now that you know where you’ll be headed in just over a month’s time, you’re probably starting to think about joining societies and sports clubs – well look no further! Athletics is quite possibly the most accessible sport, and here at Warwick Athletics and Cross Country Club (aka WUAXC), we certainly embrace that quality.
Recognised by Warwick Sport as having the broadest participation of any club on campus, you can be sure that WUAXC can help you make your university experience the best it can be. Offering a flexible training timetable, which you can tailor to suit your personal goals, WUAXC can help you achieve whatever fitness targets you have, regardless of whether you’ve run before or not. In addition, our frequent socials, ranging from trips to the Students’ Union to the mythical Pub Jog, mean that joining WUAXC will ensure that your social life is lively!
In short, we believe that joining Warwick Athletics is the best decision you could make upon arriving at Warwick. But why take our word for it? Find us at Sports Fair on 4 October to meet the executive committee, or come to our training sessions (use of all Warwick Sport facilities is free during freshers’ fortnight) to see for yourself! We look forward to seeing you soon.
On Monday 22nd February we hosted our annual XC awards night in Leamington Spa. With over 50 athletes attending as well as one of our sponsors, Belvoir Lettings Agency, it was a great night to celebrate the end of what has been a great cross country season! Well done to all award winners, in particular Oliver Poulain and Emily Denham who both achieved the ‘Captains Best XC Athlete’ award!
