3. Be Social

CIRCLE & POP! (Note: new location): Saddle up and get your bow & arrows at the ready for our “Cowboys and Indians” themed circle this Wednesday!

Due to tickets selling out super quickly, we have decided that this week we will circle in Bar Fusion (where we were last week for Fresher’s Social). This means that all you lucky Freshers with a Freshers Pass will now be able to join us for circle & pop, which is something you definitely don’t want to miss!

We will be meeting at 7pm sharp for 7.30pm start of circle in Bar Fusion. There will be reprimands for any latecomers and prizes and penalties for best & worst dressed.

Drinks costs will be £8 for a 4-pint pitcher of purple, but those of you who come armed with credit on your Eating at Warwick card can get it for £7.20, a bargain at under £2 a pint.

Afterwards we will be making our way to POP! to dance the night away. Event tickets are now sold out so if you have a ticket going spare or would like to attend but can’t get a ticket then please let Alex or Paul (our social secs) know.

A little further ahead, make sure to buy your tickets NOW for Circle & POP! weeks 4, 6, 8 & 10 & the 2 Skool Dayz events to ensure you don’t miss out as these will sell out soon. Our annual initiations will be held to welcome all new members into the club (and not forgetting those old members who missed out last time!) before week 4 circle. This year our initiations are going to have a twist so watch out for an email with deets in the coming week!

All event tickets are available here: www.warwicksu.com/events

4. Do athletics!

SHAME ON YOU if you haven’t “officially” become a member of WUAXC yet. This goes for old members as well as new! Here’s what you need to do (before the end of week 2!!)….

1. Buy Warwick Sport membership (£55). http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/sportscentre/info/membershipschemes/students/

2. Buy Athletics Club membership (£6..such a barg!). http://warwicksport.warwick.ac.uk/clubs/athleticscc/

FIRST EMAIL OF THE NEW TERM…WHOOP!

First email of the term, drumroll please…!
Happy Monday!!

On behalf of all the exec, WELCOME BACK!! We hope you have all had amazing summers (hoping there are some absolutely cracking new additions to “I have never…”), and are looking forward to the year ahead!

At WUAXC HQ, we have done our very best to make the term ahead is as exciting as possible so that you don’t even realize how much you’re missing your mum’s Sunday roast! With lots more socials, extra races and even bi-termly bleep tests planned, we hope it’s going to be a brilliant year for the club. However, we thought it would be kind if we ease you into it all gently, so just two topics of interest this week…

  1. Training
  2. Socials

…Painless enough right? Or perhaps not, if training has been low on the priority list this summer, or if circle gets you as far from upright and presentable as it is possible to be, which is so acceptable it’s almost expected. At least, that’s what I tell myself…

———
1. Training for the duration of fresher’s fortnight is open to everyone, great right? So bring along mates to try out the sessions whilst they’re available – the more the merrier!

Monday: XC intervals, meet 5pm Cryfield Pavilion*

– Sprints & middle distance work, 5pm, Westwood Track*

– Ladies jogging, meet 5pm Sports Centre reception

Tuesday: Circuits, 4:30pm in the Activity Room

–  Steady run, meet 5:30pm Sports Centre reception

Wednesday: Sprints & speed work, 1pm, Westwood Track*

– Track intervals, 1pm, Westwood Track*

– Ladies Jogging intervals, 1pm, Westwood Track*

Thursday: Circuits, 4:30pm, Activity Room

– Tempo run, meet 5:30pm Sports Centre reception

Friday: Ladies jogging XC run, meet 3pm, Cryfield Pavilion*

Saturday: If you fancy ParkRun, meet 8:25am at All Saints Church in Leamington. ParkRun is a weekly timed 5km in Newbold Comyn Park.

Sunday: Steady Run; meet 11am at the Sports Centre

*If you do not know where to go for any sessions not in/starting from the sports centre, meet at the Sports Centre 15minutes before the start time of the session. An exec member will be waiting to take you to the right place

2.  Socials, SO much fun!

– Sports Fair: Come and see us at Sports Fair on Tuesday, Wk 1.  The exec will be there from 10:30 – 5:30, and it’s always nice to have current members stopping by to chat to us and to prospective members! You’ll also get a chance to enter into our prize draw, which you definitely don’t want to miss out on a chance of winning.

Fresher’s Social, 8pm Thursday Wk 1, Rootes bar: Please join us for a casual bevvy and a good natter to get familiar with the club. We’d like to see as many of you as possible, both old AND new at this “welcome back” social.

Ladies meet & greet cake social, 4:30 pm Friday Wk 1, Curiositea: Sorry lads, this one’s for the ladies only! Whether you’ve been to the XC run with the joggers beforehand or not, pop in to Curiositea to over-indulge with a cuppa and some cake whilst you get to know some of the other girls.

Circling/Pop! We will be circling weeks 2, 4 (initiations), 6, 8  & 10. The theme for week 2 is Cowboys & Indians, so if you managed to lasso a ticket, we will see you in the Copper Rooms with 3 pints of Purple (Fresh don’t worry, you’ll learn soon enough!) at 7pm for a 7:30 start. Lateness will be punished…you don’t want to feel the wrath of our social sexies!

– Skool Dayz: Not wanting to miss out on any opportunity to don short skirts, ties and knee-length socks (cheeky), the club will be attending – and circling before – both of the Skool Dayz events this term! They are on October 19th and November 26th.

**Please buy your circle/Pop! and Skool Dayz tickets now before they sell out and you consequently miss out. Also keep an eye open for facebook events and emails nearer time for more details. **

Warwick Relays: More on this to come, but for now please pop the 26th October into your diaries for the Warwick Relays and after party events.

————-

I know I speak on behalf of the entire club when I say that we can’t wait to meet all of the new fresh, and we look forward to doing so properly at training and at the Fresher’s social, at 8pm in Rootes bar on Thursday J In the mean time, get fit. Be social. Do Athletics. And join the club (£6 with Warwick Sport membership – total bargain!)

Big Athletics love,
